And We’re Gone

Yes, it’s official, I’m writing this from beautiful Alamogordo New Mexico at a RV / Trailer Park. As Jimmy Buffet once said, I’m glad I don’t live in a trailer, although a trailer would be a lot more spacious. Our final week or so preparing for departure got a little stressful with trying to move all our crap out of the house, cleaning it up for the new renters, not to mention last minute RV repairs. We filled our 10’x20’ storage unit to the brim. At the end we were basically moving stuff into the storage unit as an alternative to throwing it away since our garbage was completely filled every week. As it is I had to make 3 trips to the landfill just to dispose of the final remnants of our stationary lifestyle. Mini-Retirement Week 1: Not That Exciting

While it was nice to not have to think about work anymore, my first week of mini-retirement was fairly uneventful. I had a bad cold all week culminating with the breaking of my right eardrum so now I can't really hear out of my right ear. Lucky is sitting in the driveway covered in snow and looking like he wants to hit the road. There's still quite a bit of work to do on the camper before we leave including: Dicor the whole roof perimeterReplace the main door handle (Old one broke and now it's stuck closed)Replace outer compartment locks and thumb latchesInstall water sensors in front cap area to provide advanced warning of any water issuesInstall two Maxxair vent covers We're slowly ticking things off the list around the house. Unemployed and Loving It: or Is There Life After Career Suicide?

Well here I am, officially unemployed as of about an hour ago. No job. No place to go during the daytime. No paycheck. I’m a little freaked out, but hey I’ll probably get over it…. Anyway, today marks a new chapter of life. The job that I just left is the only ‘real’ job I’ve ever had. It was my first job out of college and I did it for almost 15 years. I’ve got to say its an awfully strange feeling to quit a job, especially with the unconventional plans we’ve concocted. It was nice though to hear from well wishers some of whom I’ve known for the entire 15 years. I’m feeling more sadness than I expected, maybe that’s good though. Now the goal is at least a one year mini retirement of traveling the US and Canada in a 24 foot RV. We’ve still got about 3 weeks left of preparation in order to be…

Hello world!  Ok, lets be real, no one is going to read this, at least not anytime soon.  Yes I know 99% of blogs have no readers... but hey 99% of people in the world have never started a blog so what the hell.  Anyways, this is a brand new internet blog that will document the Scott family's transition to from full time working suburban dwellers, to gypsies with no jobs living in an RV whose interior living space is just slightly larger than the average garden shed.  This first post will be an introduction, so lets begin.
